Professional Bio

Amanda Murphy is a seasoned communications leader with 20+ years of experience shaping national campaigns and driving earned media for global brands. As Communications Director for the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, she leads global PR and communications strategy to boost travel to the state. She oversees agency partners, directs communications, and crafts strategies that position Tennessee as a must-visit destination for diverse audiences. Her work includes high-profile campaigns like Tennessee Playcation, advocacy to demonstrate the value of tourism and stakeholder communication across all 95 counties. Previously, Murphy spent 15 years at CMT/Viacom Media Networks, where she rose from coordinator to senior director of corporate communications. She managed brand partnerships, talent relations, crisis communications, and major campaigns — including the launch of Nashville on CMT, the network’s highest-rated original series. She began her career in corporate communications with what is now Tenerity (formerly Affinion Group) before moving into the entertainment industry. Murphy has held multiple leadership roles within PRSA, including serving as President of the Nashville Chapter. She is also a member of SATW, Les Dames d’Escoffier International (Nashville chapter), and a graduate of WICT’s Rising Leaders Program and Half the Sky Leadership Institute.
